API capacity issue could ease

Pay raises and retention bonuses have been agreed to allow the state’s Alaska Psychiatric Institute to retain key staff. This should ease workforce concerns and allow API to resume accepting some patients, easing acute burdens placed on Providence Hospital and other hospitals to accommodate API’s load. The underlying problem, a shortage of behavioral health provider capacity, is still there.
